Selina Southwell  (1838–1922)

The birth certificate of Selina Southwell shows that she was born at 5 Winchester Row, London on 6 December 1838. On 31 August 1864 she married Henry Sharman, a clerk, at St Luke's Church, Chelsea. Their daughter Lucy was born in about 1866, but no baptismal record has been located for her, nor has any record of the death of Henry Sharman been located.

On 24 July 1870 the marriage took place in Brighton of Selina Sharman (nee Southwell) and Frederick Oakes, an artist who became a portrait photographer, known professionally as Frederick Oakes Devereux. The history of this branch of the family has been well documented by David Simkin on the Photo History Sussex website. Selina died in Hove early in 1922, her husband having pre-deceased her in 1912.
