Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 6th Duke of Richmond, 6th Duke of Lennox and 1st Duke of Gordon, was born on 27 February 1818 at Richmond House, London. The Dukedom of Richmond originated in 1675 with Charles Lennox, an illegitimate son of Charles II; the current holder of the title is the 10th Duke.

The 6th Duke followed a political career, originally as the Conservative member for Sussex West. He became a Privy Councillor in 1859, and on the death of his father in 1860 he succeeded to the title and entered the House of Lords. He also served in the Royal Horse Guards and was an aide-de-camp to the Duke of Wellington.

He married Frances Harriett Greville in 1843, and they had six children. He was Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen from 1861 until his death at Gordon Castle on 27 September 1903.
